Crouch A Legend In The Making?

13 caps 10 goals. That is Peter Crouch's record currently. When Crouch was first picked for England, few could predict that he would be such a prolific goal scorer on the international stage. In fact, most were criticising the decision to pick him, let alone start him. He was only known to be a tall guy with good close control. He was too thin, he wasn't a natural goalscorer, were amongst the many reasons that critics gave.

Now Steven Gerrard is asking Crouch to chase Sir Bobby Charlton's goal scoring record of 49 goals. At the rate Peter Crouch is going, who knows what will happen since Crouch has proven many wrong thus far.

Gerrard said: "Peter's goal record is frightening and it's great to see as well. I am sure he will be disappointed not to have got another hat-trick because he had a good chance at the end as well."
"If Crouchy gets the right service, he is going to put the ball in the back of the net because he is a great finisher. I hope he beats Bobby Charlton's record."

Personally I have never seen Charlton played. I have only heard of him being a living legend who led England and
Manchester United to success. So for me to go out and say that Charlton is a much better player then Crouch would be somewhat unfair to Crouch. However, given Sir Bobby's iconic status, it would be safe to asssume that Sir Bobby can kick Crouch's ass on any given day.

Is Crouch on same road towards iconic and legendary status similar to that of Sir Bobby's? Perhaps not, but doesn't Crouch thrives on proving people wrong? After all, he is still only 25 years old.
