Premierleague the Best but not the England team?

There have been countless reviews from manager, players and journalists labeling the Premierleague the best league in the world right now. Rightfully so, as English teams has consistently made it to the last 4 for the Champions League in recent seasons.

This year we have the fluent attacking Manchester United, the gritty Chelsea and the tactical astute Liverpool.

If we take a look at the England starting line-up:

Defence: Neville, Terry, Ferdinand, Ashley; Sub: Carragher

Midfield: Lampard, Gerrard, Joe Cole

Striker: Rooney, Crouch

The nine players mentioned were England's starting line-up in the 2006 World Cup. Carragher the tenth player, should have started if England didn't have such a wealth of talent at centre-back.

How can England fail to perform internationally whilst the same batch of players go on and do fantastically for their clubs in the Champions League?!
