If Rooney was immature, Van Persie certainly was not. Malicious to say the least, his boot to face of the Thun defender clearly indicates his intentions. "His head-high tackle left him with seven stitches and a black eye, was more suited to 'kick boxing' than football". A truly dirty, dirty player who has decided to help ARSE-nal with their red-card collection now that P. Vieira left for a bigger club.

'And then came Van Persie's dismissal for a foul that was more misfortune than misdeed. With his eyes focused firmly on the ball the Holland international soared in an attempt to trap it in mid-air' - The Times

'It appeared inadvertent, and surely was, but the Polish referee Grzegorz Gilewski instantly showed the red card' - The Independent

'Malice played no part in Van Persie's thinking...The Dutchman was clearly focusing solely on the ball as he raised his boot high off the ground....no nasty intent could be detected in Van Persie's actions. The missing Henry has made a habit of plucking the ball athletically out of the air' - The Daily Telegraph

'Van Persie who had no intention of playing the ball lunged at the Thun defender and thus making what has to be a truly ugly tackle in the young man's face. Misfortune? I say more like malice.'
Richard Williams - Guardian

'His foot was dangerously raised as he went for the defender's head but Arsenal argued vehemently that a booking would have sufficed. Orman played on with a bandage around his head and was rather unfairly booed by the crowd.' Soccernet.com
